Job Skills / Requirements
Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, execute journeyman-level tasks in the maintenance, repair, construction, alteration, framing, and finishing of District buildings and facilities. This includes remodeling and constructing buildings and equipment, as well as performing other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties/Essential Functions
- Project Completion: Complete projects and general maintenance work requests for Libertyville and Vernon Hills High Schools.
- Carpentry Knowledge: Utilize working knowledge of carpentry and light construction.
- Variety of Carpentry Work: Perform rough and finish carpentry work for repairs and remodeling projects.
- Construction Tasks: Build and repair counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, ceilings, floors, doors, locks, and lockers using a variety of hand and power tools.
- Preparation of Drawings: Ability to prepare drawings and sketches for construction and repair projects.
- Effective Performance: Perform duties effectively, in a timely manner, and without supervision.
- Multitasking and Organization: Must have the ability to multitask and possess strong organizational skills.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to perform light maintenance duties such as inspecting drivers, motors, belts, check fluids levels, replace filters and follow inspection list. Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, to precision measuring instructions, electrical and electronic testing devices. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them by reading blueprints, repair manuals and parts catalogs as necessary Inspect, operate and test machinery and equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions. Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of machinery. Knowledge of relevant equipment, safety policies, procedures and strategies for the protection of people data, property and institutions. Measure and cut accurately. Build wooden structures like frames, doors, and cabinets, understand construction math and apply finishing techniques, all while focusing on building projects that may include complete room framing. Fulfilling work order requests and ability to determine and make recommendations as to when subcontractors need to be called to perform major maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
