The successful candidate will under general supervision, perform field services related to meters, facilities, Ice Houses, and customer problems.  Performs minor maintenance to meters as needed.  Reports to Field Service Supervisor.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Under general supervision, the Training Specialist is responsible for supporting the company-wide SWS/SSSD Health and Safety training needs by organizing, scheduling, coordinating, facilitating and delivering training activities. Responsible for coordinating safety training courses, monitoring attendance, and verifying data has been properly recorded. The position's goals are to promote safe and healthy work practices for employees through appropriate safety training. Reports to the Safety Coordinator. 

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.     Develops, schedules, and facilitates ongoing training events based on team member’s requirements, priorities, and availability. Scheduling will include delivering safety training, securing locations, and materials required.

2.     Prepares and teaches training programs that include but are not limited to: Forklift, CPR & First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Traffic Control-Work Area Protection, Fall Protection, PPE, Lock Out/Tag Out, Electrical Safety, Excavation, Confined Space, Emergency Preparedness Plan, Defensive Driving, etc.

3.     Formulates teaching outlines and determines instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, lectures, demonstrations, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and reference material. 

4.     Develops and coordinates a company-wide training schedule for team members to ensure consistency in training across the company. 

5.     Assists the Safety Coordinator in planning and implementing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal (OSHA) rules and regulations.

6.     Evaluates employee safety skills and knowledge during training process to ensure effective training has taken place and is understood by every employee.

7.     Develops strong relationships with all departments to develop course materials and receive feedback. 

8.     Creates and delivers new hire orientation safety training to create job ready employees. 

9.     Ensures all training delivered is complaint with up-to-date laws and regulations. 

10.   Assists the Safety Coordinator with managing, maintaining, selecting, and organizing content for the Vector electronic training system.

11.   May assist with walk-through inspections of facilities and field work sites to detect existing or potential hazards. 

12.   Reviews employee job description duties to determine training and PPE needs based by department industry type.

13.   Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the SWS/SSSD Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and other related safety topics.

14.   Recommends necessary changes in health and safety training related information being delivered to employees. 
 
15.   Ensures first aid and bleed control kits are fully stocked and supplies are up-to-date. 

16.   Performs other related duties as required.

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with two years of experience with occupational health, industrial health and safety, safety training, or other related field, possesses a strong knowledge of OSHA requirements and regulations, has exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, experience teaching and presenting in large groups or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have the ability to organize and prioritize work effectively and operate under firm deadlines. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Safety certifications and utility experience is desired. Must obtain OSHA-10 General Industry and Construction, and CPR trainer certification within one year of employment
