Administrative Assistant (County Attorney)

Job Skills / Requirements

Individual needed to provide clerical and administrative support in the county attorney’s office and provide primary assistance to the commonwealth attorney.

The duties and responsibilities of the position include the following:

  • Meets with attorneys and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
  • Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
  • Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.
  • Attends court to take notes during motion hour.
  • Maintains files and filing systems.
  • Identifies, reviews, and files various types of materials; conducts research related to materials as needed.
  • Locates documents received from law enforcement and provides follow-up as needed to obtain any additional information.
  • Transfers information from reports, files, and other documents into databases, spreadsheets, and/or other recordkeeping systems.
  • Enters and types documents as needed.
  • Prepares other legal or professional documents in accordance with needs.
  • Performs other clerical tasks as needed, which may include management of mail, management of office supplies, operation of office equipment, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position requires a high school diploma or GED and two years of responsible clerical or administrative assistant experience.  Preference will be given to candidates with an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field or two or more years of paralegal experience and proven keyboarding skills.  Individual must also possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and have prior experience using the MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. A successful candidate will be self-motivated, persistent at obtaining needed information, able to work independently, use deductive reasoning skills, have a sense of urgency and be able to complete work by deadlines.
