Scott County is located in the northern portion of the bluegrass region and its largest city is Georgetown. On January 1, 2019, Scott County elected a new Judge Executive, Joe Pat Covington. With nearly 250 full-time employees, the county government offers services through a variety of important departments including; fire, sheriff, emergency medical services, emergency management, detention center, roads, animal care and control, county attorney, county clerk, coroner, electrical inspection and administrative services. Individual needed to maintain a safe secure environment for the care and custody of inmates remanded to the detention center. Duties include: enforcing all rules, regulations and laws related to detention center operations, including facility policies and procedures; ensuring the smooth operation of the facility by identifying problems, solutions and implementing corrective actions; and daily deputy duties including intake and release procedures, conducting searches of inmates and inmate living areas, transport of inmates, incident investigations, report writing, de-escalation of inmate situations, writing bonds, and testifying in court.
Position requires graduation from high school or possession of a GED and some work experience. Individuals must be 21 years of age, a US citizen, possess a valid driver’s license, and be eligible to possess a firearm. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience working in a detention center, security, law enforcement, and/or those with vocational or college training/education in security, law enforcement or a related field. Qualified candidates with military service should be prepared to provide a copy of their DD214. Selected candidates will work a 12-hour shift and will alternate between 36-hour and 48-hour work weeks. Workdays begin at 7am or 7pm based on shift assigned. Uniforms are provided for all staff.
