BTI is accepting applications for experienced and licensed SPO (Armed) Dispatcher.  Candidates must have an active Armed SPO license issued by the District of Colombia (DC), Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), or Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB).

Duties/Responsibilities

SPO (Armed) Dispatcher shall perform Specific duties and shall have specific responsibilities which are documented in Government provided DOC Post Orders. They shall be thoroughly familiar with the duties and responsibilities of the Post to which they are assigned. They shall remain vigilant throughout their shift period, not engaging in or being distracted by activities that might have an impact on their situation awareness. Dispatcher’s duties shall include but are not limited to:

  • Monitoring the computer-based ESS alarm and access control systems and closed-circuit television systems
  • Monitoring electrical, water, and or gas alarms and notifying the Shift Supervisor and when necessary, requesting external emergency response services. Performing emergency shutdown of utility services when necessary
  • Emergency response coordination
  • Telephone and radio communication coordination between the Shift Supervisor and SPO’s
  • Internal and external emergency notification
  • Maintenance of a daily activity log of incidents: and preparation of reports of incidents
  • Maintaining a lost and found articles log
  • Receiving, issuing, storing, and accounting for controlled property
  • Responding to Kennedy Center staff and the public regarding security-related questions (lost and found, etc.)

Qualifications

  • Must be a United States Citizen
  • Dispatcher shall possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a SOC which includes experience in the operation of computer-based alarm monitoring, access control systems and radio/telephone
  • Ability to read and wrote English fluently
  • Ability to speak and understand English fluently
  • Ability to provide calm, courteous, and concise information over the radio or phone in stressful or emergency situation
  • Ability to prepare and maintain complete and comprehensive reports
  • Ability to maintain constant liaison with on-scene personnel and responders in the event of an emergency

Training Requirements

  • All SPOs must complete the training requirements and pass the required written examination.
  • All SPOs must take the following training:
  • 40 hours of Initials Weapons Training
  • X-ray and Magnetometer
  • Fitness for duty certification
  • Emergency Evacuation Procedures
  • Code Bravo
  • Watch Tour Procedures

 Certification Requirements (All)

  • DCSPO Armed License
  • OC Spray Certification
  • Handcuffing Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Card

Education Requirements (Any)

High School Diploma/GED
Associates Degree

Certification Requirements (All)

O.C. aerosol spray
