GENERAL SUMMARY:
The children’s program is part of the ESL program for refugees who attend ESL classes at Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services English School. The purpose of the program is to provide care and instructions to toddlers and school age children while their parents attend English language classes, orientations, or employment-related training programs. The job involves teaching children English through games and activities, feeding them, and maintaining a schedule and routine which allows children to have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:
1. Organizing activities for toddlers and school age children

2. Developing a schedule for children to maintain throughout the day.
3. Ensure that all the toys are clean and safe, and the play area is clean and neat.
4. Identify signs of emotional or developmental problems or distress in children and bring them to the attention of the ELT Manager.
5. Maintain daily attendance and progress records.
6. Participate in school-wide activities and committees as needed and accompany children and parents to and from school on outings and field trips.
7. Follow the policies and procedures of the ELT School as well as those of Migration and Refugee Services and Catholic Charities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This work is performed in a school setting with moderate noise due to people and children moving around.
EFFORT:
- Ability to undertake all physical requirements involved with an early childhood setting including bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, standing, and sitting for long periods.
- Ability to lift/move children and supplies up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A high school diploma or GED with related experience is preferred.
- Must have some experience working with children.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Must enjoy caring for children and work with families of various cultures and individuals with limited English-speaking abilities.
- Must have basic knowledge of the health, hygiene, and nutritional needs of children.
- Must have basic knowledge of the stages of physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and cultural development of children.
- Must have patience for keeping up with the demands of children of all ages.
- Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language in an effective manner.
- Must have proficient PC skills including Microsoft Word and Outlook
