Overview

~Our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 16 bed state of the art step down unit.
~Our nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and have each attended basic arrhythmia courses.
~All of our rooms are private as well as very roomy for your comfort.
~Each room is equipped with telemetry or hardwire ECG, pulse osimetry, and NIBP.
~Telemetry units are placed on patients that require monitoring while ambulatory, and hardwire ECG is placed on most patients confined to the bed.
~Our Unit believes in the individualized care of the whole being. Included in this approach is the involvement of the patient and their significant others/supportive relationships in the development of an appropriate treatment process with the collaborative efforts of the registered nurse, physician, social worker, pastoral care, dietitian, respiratory therapist, and other ancillary care providers to address key physiological and psychosocial needs.
~At JSMC, teamwork and customer service skills are paramount.

***New graduates will be considered for an interview after passing NCLEX.

Job Skills / Requirements

- Must hold a current nursing license issued by the Kentucky State Board of Nursing.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Critical Care/Step Down Unit experience preferred.
- Must deliver competent, high quality clinical care in a caring compassionate environment.
- Works with a team of health care professionals to achieve positive patient outcomes.
- Must provide quality customer service to our patients and other staff members.
- Preferences given to candidates with the following certifications : BAC, ACLS


Essential Job Functions:
Completes nursing hx and assessment accurately within expected time frame.
Determines and delivers age appropriate care.
Determines duties based on complexity of patient needs.
Utilization of critical thinking skills in prioritization of care.
Develops and prioritizes individualized plan of care.
Documents interventions that are accurate, pertinent, timely, and legible.
Administers meds observing the "Five Rights"
Administers meds correctly based on pt's age and clinical condition.
Performs skills and tasks required by unit expectations.
Provides safe environment
Includes pt caregiver and disciplines in care, council and health teaching
Demonstrates correct use and troubleshooting of equipment.
Correctly demonstrates "Time Out" procedure when appropriate.
Reads back verbal or phone orders to physicians
Documentation, handwriting and signature are legible.
Evaluates the efficacy of plan of care.
Modifies based on patients current condition.
Make rounds with physicians and surgeons.
Ability to supervise staff members who provide direct patient care.
Provides health care at the best value without compromising pt care.
Responsible and accountable for all actions.
Practices within the scope of license.

Education Requirements (Any)

Associates Degree in Nursing

Certification Requirements (Any)

BLS Certification - American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider) required. Must be current.
ACLS Certification preferred.
