Overview

Promotes and restores patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising assigned team members. The Registered Nurse should maintain a positive working relationship with his/her staff as well as Physicians, LIP's and ancillary departments and a variety of Physician's offices.

As a Studer Group partner Registered Nurses must have the ability to develop a full understanding of the Studer Group practices and tools and communicate them effectively. Registered Nurses must embrace the Studer Philosophies and Principals by conducting him/herself in a professional manner. Identifying patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
Establishing a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends,and families.
Promoting patients independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient, friends, and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions.
Assuring quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing division's philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
Resolving patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
Maintaining safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
Protecting patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
Documenting patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
Maintaining continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Maintaining patient confidence and protecting operations by keeping information confidential.
Ensuring operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Organizational skills are needed working with multiple patients with differing needs and scheduling in a fast paced environment.
Knowledge of IV medications, fluids, and blood products. Ability to educate patient and family on medication and side effects.
Competent in working with a variety of different vascular access devices associated with infusions.

Education Requirements (All)

Associates Degree in Nursing

Certification Requirements (Any)

Must become chemo competent in 3 months.
BLS Certification - American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider) required. Must be current.

Must be licensed by the state of Kentucky or hold license in a compact state as a Registered Nurse.

Maintain BLS certification.

Must complete Chemotherapy competencies within 3 months.

Education:
Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing. Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred.

Reports to: Charge Nurse, Team Leader, House Supervisor, Clinical Nurse Manager

Supervises: LPN’s & Sec/Techs

Shift/Work Hours: varies

Screening Requirements: Drug Screen, Criminal Background Check, Physical Exam, Other
