Overview

~Our 5th floor unit also located in the Medical Tower has 26 private rooms dedicated to medical patients with an emphasis on the Hospitalists patients.
~The 5th floor unit is one of 32 units nationwide to be part of the TCAB (Transforming Care At the Bedside) initiative cosponsored by The American Organization of Nurse Executives along with The Robert Woods Johnson Foundation.
~The unit has the capacity to provide continuous oxygen saturation monitoring as well as telemetry.
~Our goal is to provide comprehensive care to all our patients.
~Many of our nurses are chemotherapy certified, hold basic arrhythmia certifications as well as Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certifications.
~The mission of the 5th floor Hospitalist/Medical unit is to provide patient-centered safe and reliable care for every patient, every day.

Job Skills / Requirements

- Must be certified by the State of Kentucky as an RN (Compact State).
- Excellent clinical skills and must be professional and courteous to our patients, visitors, physicians, vendors, and co-workers at all times.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Medical Surgical experience preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
Completes Patient Data Base within expected time frame. Assures that appropriate referrals and screenings are made dependent on Patient Data Base Triggers.
Determines and delivers age appropriate care, utilizes verbage specific to the age group, provides safe environment dependent on age group, assesses pain utilizing the pain scale, pictures, gestures or objective data.
Delegates duties based on complexity of patient needs.
Utilization of critical thinking skills in prioritization of care.
Coordinates and prioritizes individualized plan of care.
Coordinates and collaborates plan of care with health care team.
Incorporates discharge planning needs in plan of care. Participates in discharge rounds for team.
Documents interventions that are accurate, pertinent, timely and legible.
Administers meds observing the "5 Rights" and consistent with JSMC Medication administration policy.
Administers meds correctly based on pt's age and clinical condition. Awareness of weight based medications, medication and dosages that affect certain age groups.
Performs skills and tasks required by unit expectations.
Provide safe environment.
Includes patient, caregiver, and disciplines in care, council and health teaching. Consistently documents all patient/family teaching on Interdisciplinary Education Record.
Demonstrates correct use and troubleshooting of equipment.
Evaluate and documents the efficacy of the care plan, outcomes and all interventions.
Consistently utilizes and documents the pain scale or objective data in assessing pain. Documents location, duration and character of pain. Utilizes and documents the efficacy of pain interventions utilizing the pain scale or objective data.
Ability to supervise staff members who provide direct patient care. Attempts to resolve issues independently, if unable seeks the assistance of the Charge Nurse or Clinical Nurse Manager.
Provides health care at the best value without compromising patient care.
Practices within the scope of license.
Precept/ orient new personnel/ students
Must possess legible handwriting
Must possess skills to read back and verify all orders.
Must date and note time of all physician orders
Must make rounds with physicians on a daily basis.

Education Requirements (All)

Associates Degree in Nursing

Certification Requirements (Any)

BLS Certification - American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider) required. Must be current.
