The respiratory therapist is responsible for assisting, evaluate, and maintaining quality patient care, from infants to elderly; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families. The respiratory therapist should maintain a positive working relationship with his/her staff as well as Physicians, LIP's and ancillary departments.
-Licensed in the state of Kentucky as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
-Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy School.
-Previous experience in Critical Care working with mechanically ventilated patients essential.
-Previous experience in a NICU setting preferred.
-To ensure the delivery of competent, high quality clinical care in a compassionate environment.
-Respiratory Therapists are accountable for providing safe and reliable patient care in accordance to JSMC policy and procedure, CMS standards and regulations, and Joint Commission standard and regulations.
- Identifying patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
- Establishing a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
- Assuring quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and Respiratory Care Board.
-Documenting patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
- Maintaining continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
-Ensuring operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
BLS Certification - American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider) required. Must be current.
Respiratory Therapist Certification
Active License for the State of Kentucky
ACLS within 90 days of employment or transfer to the department.
