Qualifications of Position:
High school education or G.E.D. equivalent.
Graduate of a medical assistant program, certification required.
BLS Certification required.
Previous experience in a medical practice.
Knowledge and ability to work in accordance with accepted clinical standards.
An understanding of patientâ€™s medical records, physicianâ€™s orders and medical orders to be communicated to patient and hospital staff.
Ability to work tactfully and effectively with patients, family members, other employees and physicians.
Specific Responsibilities of Position:
Places the patients in the examination room. Takes histories and physical exam information. Obtains vital signs, ascertains patient complaint or reason for visit and enters the information into the patients record. Checks the patient record to insure all required information has been obtained and completed.
Completes disability status sheet and fax to proper places, as requested.
Writes school/work excuses and provider orders, and has physician or PA sign.
Prior to patient visit, performs the following:
a.Ensures that all equipment in exam room is clean and properly set up.
b.Ensures supplies are adequate.
Cleans and restocks examination rooms for the days use.Reviews patient records, x-rays, and test results for the days visit and prepares necessary paperwork.
Escorts the doctor while seeing female patients.
Screens telephone calls for the physicians, and takes clinical messages, as appropriate.
Answers patient inquiries with respect to medical questions within the limits of knowledge and practice policy.
Takes calls from the pharmacist. Calls in prescriptions and prescription refills to pharmacy as directed by the physician.
Arranges for diagnostic services for patients on an outpatient basis such as PT, MRIs, Bone Scans, CTs, etc. and completes proper paperwork.
Schedules and makes pre-operative arrangements.
Schedules surgeries for patients. Complete proper paperwork and obtains proper clearance. Assists with pre-operative counseling and provides directions to patients.
Prepares and mails greeting card for patients after surgery is completed.
Assists physician in examination and surgical or diagnostic procedures and treatment, as well as preps patients.
Marks super-bill or notes EHR for any procedures performed and any supplies used.
16. Counsels and educates patient and family as necessary.
17. Provides dressing changes, wound-care, suture removal, cast application and removal, etc., as required by physician.
18. Makes arrangements with proper agencies for administration of patient home health care as directed by physician.
Communicates physician referrals to other providers and relays proper information about the patient.
Maintains all clinical equipment to include sterilizing, as applicable. Evaluates all equipment for damage or maintenance needs, and reports information to the Office Manager.
Checks clinical supplies and orders as needed once clearance has been given by the Office Manager.
Answers clinical mail for the physician when required.
Prepares patient insurance forms with as much information as appropriate prior to giving to physician to finish, review and sign.
Medical Assistant Certification Required.
High School Graduate or equivalent
BLS Certification - American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider) required. Must be current.
