Job Skills / Requirements

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Diversity Affairs, the Coordinator of Student Diversity and Inclusion Programming actively contributes to shaping an inclusive campus environment and supporting students' success as learners, leaders and citizens by creating culturally affirming programs and events that nurture a sense of belonging, build community, and encourage critical reflection of their own and others' personal and social identities, including intersections of identities. 

Essential Job Functions:

    • Provide support for students and student organizations through one on one and group mentoring, leadership development, and organizational support.
    • Represent the office to and interact on a daily basis with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and outside organizations and individuals.
  • Intercultural Suite
    • Provide in-person and virtual office hours
    • Assist in coordination and implementation of:
      • Heritage and Cultural Months Celebration
      • Anti-Racism programming
      • 2020 Election Campus Engagement programming
      • Other programming
  • Provide support, guidance and mentoring for:
    • Intercultural Council
    • Diversity Student Union
    • New Horizon Scholars
    • SGA Committee on Diversity and Inclusion
    • Athletic Diversity Council
  • Assist in development and implementation of:
    • Student Listening Sessions for ODI Strategic Plan
    • Martin Luther King, Jr, Convocation and Day of Service
    • Diversity and Inclusion Week and Awards Ceremony
  • Develop content and manage:
    • ODI Newsletter
    • ODI social media
  • Appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required, with 1-3 years of higher education program development experience preferred. 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrate cultural competency skills and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Thorough knowledge is preferred, as well as discretion, tact, diplomacy, and confidence in relaying information.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and thrive in a demanding environment.
  • Strong work ethic; meticulous attention to detail; commitment to completing work on a timely basis and at the highest level of accuracy and quality.
  • This individual will also plan ahead and anticipate needs while exercising flexibility and adaptability.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, and be ability to multi-task, and must demonstrate strong decision making skills.
  • Must demonstrate ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment needed to handle confidential information, documents and communication within the office; exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills are required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) required.
  • Knowledge of Google Applications preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Limited pushing, pulling, lifting.  Lifting would not exceed 20 lbs.        Mobility on campus necessary.  Valid driver’s license.

Education Requirements (Any)

Bachelor's Degree required.
