Job Skills / Requirements
Position Summary:
The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN) is responsible for delivering safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care to adult patients with a wide variety of acute and chronic medical conditions. The Med Surg RN coordinates and manages care across multiple disciplines and is accountable for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care in a fast-paced hospital setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients based on the nursing process and in accordance with hospital policies.
- Assess and monitor patient conditions, recognize changes, and intervene appropriately.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and treatments as prescribed.
- Perform and assist with procedures, dressing changes, wound care, and other nursing interventions.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, ancillary departments, and support staff to develop and implement care plans.
- Educate patients and families on conditions, treatments, medications, and discharge planning.
- Safely manage patient assignments and prioritize care in a dynamic, often high-acuity environment.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission).
- Participate in unit-based quality initiatives, shared governance, and staff meetings.
- Precept and mentor newly hired nurses and nursing students as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licensure/Certifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kentucky with no restrictions.
- BLS
- ACLS within 6 months
- Arrhythmia within 1 year
- PALS preferred
Experience:
- One (1) year of acute care nursing experience preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, time management, and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems and standard hospital equipment.
- Ability to manage multiple patients and adapt to changing priorities in a busy unit.
Education Requirements (All)
Associate Degree with related experience
Certification Requirements (All)
BLS
ACLS, within 6 months of hire
PALS preferred
KY licensed RN
Arrhythmia Class, within 1 year of hire

This job reports to the Med Surg Department Manager
This is a Full-Time position 1st Shift, 7pm - 7am.
Travel is not required
