The Nurse Specialist provides independent nursing services focusing on the prevention of illness, injury or disability, the promotion of health, and maintenance of the health of individuals and populations. The incumbent works independently within agency guidelines in a variety of settings to provide services. Specifically, the Nurse Specialist provides nursing services focused on identification, control, treatment and prevention of communicable diseases by: administering immunizations; independently providing and/or assisting the clinician in screening and treating patients with sexual transmitted infections; providing direct patient care to vulnerable populations; practicing case management to effectively control tuberculosis infection or active disease in both clinical and home field based settings; working with a diverse multidisciplinary team to positively impact the health of the community with regards to communicable disease control and prevention.
Must be a current KY Registered Nurse. Nursing Diploma + 5 years of experience, or Associates Degree + 3 years of experience or Bachelors Degree in nursing or related field + 2 years of experience or Master's degree in nursing or related field and 1 years of experience. Acceptable experience includes prior health department experience, or experience in 1 or more of the following areas: Home Health, Clinic/Hospital, patients in a confined facility.
Must attend KDPH TB Program training and complete Comprehensive Reproductive Exam Training Certification within 18 months of employment. Must complete nalaxone distribution training with pharmacist within 6 months of hire.
