Nurse Specialist Infectious Disease (RN)

The Nurse Specialist provides independent nursing services focusing on the prevention of illness, injury or disability, the promotion of health, and maintenance of the health of individuals and populations. This position is responsible for providing nursing services focused on identification, control, treatment and prevention of communicable diseases. This position has specific job duties associated currently with COVID response and pandemic. Once COVID subsides, the expectation are duties associated with daily clinical nursing services.
Salary Grade N4, Non-exempt, $28.10 per hour
Tasks specific to current COVID response:
- Monitor Covid emails and faxes, enter new cases into the database management system (RedCap).
- Assign cases to be called for case investigation.
- Identify congregate settings and/or employers who may need to be notified of positive cases and make recommendations to those facilities to prevent the further spread of the disease.
- Sends out of jurisdiction cases/contacts to appropriate responsible authorities.
- Contact medical facilities to obtain case investigation information on institutional patients.
- Participate in conference calls with agencies, as needed (such as long term care facilities, factories with multiple cases).
- Contact testing facilities to obtain missing information (lab reports, testing date, case phone numbers, etc.).
During and when Covid subsides, performs clinical services duties to include working with the Epidemiology team with communicable diseases; may assist with treatment on-site in the clinic for patients diagnosed with infectious diseases; work with the TB team with treatment and follow-up (may include DOT and clinic visits); draw blood in clinic (Venipuncture-will be trained on-the-job; assist with immunization clinics such as flu vaccines in clinic and in the community.
Nursing Diploma + 5 years of experience, OR Associate’s degree + 3 years of experience, OR Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related experience + 2 years of experience OR Master’s degree in nursing or related field + 1 year of experience. Acceptable experience includes prior health department experience, home health, or clinic/hospital (inpatient or outpatient care).
Registered Nurse (RN) with active Kentucky nursing license. CPR required. Must attend KDPH TB Program training or complete Comprehensive Reproductive Exam Training Certification within 18 months of employment.
