The PRN Nurse Specialist is cross-trained to work in multiple departments. This position is posted and filled on an on-going basis.
The Nurse Specialist PRN is standby hours as needed. The pay rate is $28.10 per hour to commensurate with experience. The Nurse Specialist is cross-trained to provide various nursing services, on any given day, focusing on the prevention of illness, injury or disability, the promotion of health, and maintenance of the health of individuals and populations. The incumbent works independently within agency guidelines in a variety of programs (to include schools, communicable disease, community events, and public health clinic) following the guidelines and standing orders contained in the Core Clinical Guide (CCSG).
Services in communicable disease or public health clinic setting include but are not limited to: nursing services focused on identification, control, treatment and prevention of communicable disease, administration of immunizations, assisting clinician with family planning patients, and evaluation and treatment of sexually transmitted infections; direct patient care to vulnerable populations to effectively control tuberculosis infection or active disease in both clinical and home field based settings, works with diverse multidisciplinary team to positively impact the health of the community with regards to communicable disease control prevention.
Services in school setting include but are not limited to: mandated public health and school health services to include treatment coverage (diabetes, etc), vision screenings, immunization consultation, medication, log review, health fairs, and data entry.
Other essential functions and items: Must assist with community assessment, identities, cultural, social, and behavioral factors that impact delivery of service, assesses eligibility for health department programs as appropriate, assesses needs of patients and refers to appropriate community agency as needed, assesses and acts appropriately to chemical and biological exposures, provides health care teaching (preventive and therapeutic) appropriate to educational level (and language barriers) and documents medical record, works in and independent role following guidelines and standing orders contained in the current Core Clinical Services Guide (CCSG), maintains updated CPR/AED/OSHA/FEMA/HIV knowledge, and responds to Public Health Emergencies as needed.
Nurse Specialist may require frequent local travel from one work site to another, for example, school to school and/ or field visits outside of the clinic.
The following must be maintained at all times for the duration of the Nurse Specialist position: current and valid drivers' license, reliable transportation dependent upon daily assignments, current CPR, and current RN license.
Minimum education and experience: Nursing Diploma + 5 years of experience OR Associate's Degree in nursing + 3 years of experience OR Bachelor's Degree in nursing or related field + 2 years of related experience, OR Master's Degree in nursing or related field + 1 year of related experience. Acceptable experience includes 1 of the following: prior school health, pediatric care in hospital or clinic, ER or urgent care, home health, public agency such as Health Department. Current RN and current CPR.
NURSESTDBY: Nursing Diploma, Associates Degree in Nursing, or Bachelors Degree in Nursing, or Masters Degree in Nursing or related field.
Valid Registered Nursing License
The Nurse Specialist is an on-going PRN pool of candidates. Selected candidates must maintain the following to remain in good standing as viable PRN status:
Participate in quarter;y PRN nurse staff meetings (through on-site, join meeting by telephone, or review and sign off on meeting minutes)
Provide monthly schedule for work availability before the 1st of each month
Accept 75% of offered assignments (based on schedule availability provided by employee)
Screening Requirements: Drug Screen, Criminal Background Check
